Module

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."

Albert Einstein

The purpose of this 21-day module is to build personal habits of discipline, stewardship and spirituality, and empower community individuals to share their heart, skills, and talents.
Here the participants take ownership of their schedule, habits of study, and reflection as they work together to design and implement service projects. This is a supportive training environment with an emphasis on personal ownership.

In the Community Development Module, there are a series of ‘stunts’ that participants are challenged with. These are designed to allow participants to experience their fears, doubts and questions about who they are and what they believe. They also gain experience in establishing their own service projects. Through this they learn how to assess the needs of a community, do outreach and P.R., and gain funding to accomplish their project.

As an example, participants ‘pioneer’ a town for 5 days with goals and tasks to accomplish during their time alone. A few tasks include: “serve at least 5 people today”, “share your testimony and hear someone else's’s”, “put on an event”, “talk to 5 people about what's important for you ”, etc. Through this challenge, they have the opportunity to have deep experiences of self-discovery, true compassion and real ownership. Participants are fully responsible for their decisions and outcomes. (Note: we do take precautions for their safety and set them up for success).

Our aim is to create synergy between our program and the communities we serve. For the community, the benefit is in receiving youthful energy, young men and woman as mentors, and service to families. We organize a ‘host family’ for each participant to be able to stay with for a couple of nights to give them a view into the varied lives of other families besides their own. Our participants act as emissaries of service for the family as they love and care for them.

From the community, we benefit with the variety of resources in education and experience which contribute to our curriculum and from the willing audience for us to ‘practice’ with. The community members find life when they speak to our group and offer their expertise which is valuable to inherit for young participants.

Thank you,
Jacob Shaw,
Community Development Coordinator

Workshop
Development Module
Life, full of lessons, is all about crossing the line of breakthrough over and over again...choosing problems and overcoming them rather than remaining in our comfort zone...

The Workshop Development Module is a 21-day leadership training program, with a focus in learning how to create events. The whole point of this module is confidence. - Confidence in who we are, what we believe in, and what we can do. Everything in this Module is designed with this in mind. Like all aspects of NGA, we go through challenges that sparks thoughts such as "There's no way I can do this, this is too hard". With the education and support system provided in this program we guide participants to come out on top and through that they realize, "Hey, maybe I'm not as bad as I thought I was. Maybe I actually do have a lot to offer." The workshop module has the same internal philosophy of NGA, and the uniqueness comes from the physical things that we do.

With the NGA philosophy as our backbone, the external things that we do come in a wide range of things connected to building good workshops. Our main focuses are workshop coordination, public speaking, and communal living. While going through these experiences we gain skills that can help us in our life. A few examples of these skills are being able to put to together events, lead projects, and speak in front of large audiances.

Throughout the module we put on numerous workshops and through this, we gain experience in understanding how to coordinate the different roles, how to delegate, work well under pressure and inspire a team towards a common vision.

In adition to hosting events, there are a variety of activities called "stunts". The stunts are a series of public speaking challenges designed to help us find and develop confidence, creativity and passion.
Outside their comforst zone, under pressure, the participants are continually learning a wide range of new skills By undergoing challenges in a supportive environment they discover their higher selves.
They discover that they can lead, they can inspire and they have the ability to achieve their dreams.

Thank you,
Teddy Sylte,
Coordinator, Workshop Development Module

Fund-raising
Module

Each NGA participant cycles through the fundraising module throughout the year providing the financial foundation that sponsors the diverse activities and projects within the NextGen Academy program. Along with the needed financial foundation, this module provides our participants with an environment to grow as mature people and to enhance their inner qualities of integrity, emotional stability, selfless service, ownership, work as a part of a TEAM. It provides perfect environment to live up to a higher standard in day to day life.

During every fund-raising module period, a group of participants will embark on an adventure as a team with a team leader in the role as their skipper. Each team delegates various responsibilities to specific roles to be filled by its members (they include an assistant, education director, bookkeeper, and “Van Man”). Having these roles really allows each member to contribute to the team spirit in their own unique way by investing into their specific role. They also experience different styles of fundraising, including owning their own town and no-product fundraising, in order to learn how to focus and invest in different situations and apply different levels of ownership.

Leadership is a huge aspect to this module. Participants have the opportunity to be creative and responsible over the task they set out to achieve and it allows them to step into the leadership role. Yet, the real test of leadership comes in December when the second year leaders step down from their positions and the first year participants must step up as team leaders. December being an all-fundraising module, these new leaders receive a day long “Captain’s Training Intensive” on the basics of leading a fundraising team and being a true reliable leader to their peers. The content given is very general with the purpose of giving the brand new leaders a chance to take lots of ownership over guiding their team to success and be creative in their new position. They also report to a member of the NGA staff everyday of the fundraising experience to maintain good communication and receive guidance to take care of their team.

Fundraising provides an excellent environment for growth in which anyone can experience either grinding frustration and desperation or the elations of achieving the seemingly impossible. Everything is the experience that generates one's deepest convictions and strengths.

Fundraising is truly a significant tool to challenge and empower our participants to create lives of authenticity, abundance, and altruism.
